VRLingo

About the project

Grand Prize Winner for "Shared World Experience"

VRLingo is a social VR platform designed to make speaking a new language more accessible and engaging through immersive, real-time conversation. Built as a standalone app on the Quest 2 using Unity and Normcore, VRLingo connects language learners around the world in virtual environments tailored to everyday scenarios—like dining out or shopping—where users can roleplay and build fluency through natural, situational dialogue. The platform introduces a unique credit system called TBucks, where users earn by teaching their native language and spend to practice a new one—creating a self-sustaining, community-driven model of free language exchange.

What sets VRLingo apart is its blend of gamified interaction, contextual prompts, and spatial immersion to facilitate language learning that feels less like study and more like play. We envision a future where immersive language practice is democratized through affordable, engaging virtual experiences. With paths for monetization such as branded environments, professional tutoring add-ons, and optional subscriptions, VRLingo shows potential as both a powerful learning tool and a scalable startup.
